Phase 2

New cats and a new road sign.

Originally there were two defiant bronze cats "guarding" the memorial. Sadly these were stolen in 1997. The original road sign to the park also had a protective cat sitting proudly atop its mask. It was stolen cira 1964

As with the plaque, the materials in the new cats will not have a “melt down” value.

Map to the park drawn by Ian Monro architect of McBain Park

In 1963 Hughston was granted permission by the “road authorities” to place a sign on the A.862 road near Dores to mark the turn off to McBain Park.  Sadly it was taken only few years later.  By the late 1960s the second road sign installed by James McBain of McBain was also removed.  Assuming we still have permission the new marker will be a bit heaver, rooted a bit deeper, and stouter than it’s predecessors.
